(Family Features) When it comes to advice about healthy living, there are opinions nearly every place you turn. Unfortunately, a great deal of that information is based on fad diets and trendy workouts that may deliver quick results but don’t promote a sustainable, healthy lifestyle. The medical community generally agrees that slow and steady is...Continue reading

Six Numbers That Will Change Your Life
We all have numbers that are important to us. Our anniversary date, the number of friends and family we will invite to our daughter’s wedding, maybe even the number of calories per day we’re going to try and maintain through our next (and this time it’s going to work) diet. But there are six numbers...Continue reading

Yale Medicine doctors warn that people as young as age 20 need to be aware of the warning signs. Nobody in their 20s, 30s or 40s gets colorectal cancer, right? Wrong. How Men Win when They Support Women in Technology
Forging healthy relationships in and out of the workplace has benefits for everyone. When it comes to technology in the workplace, men historically have always had the edge, occupying the majority of jobs. These days however, it’s not just men who are geeking out over technology and occupying the majority of seats in colleges...Continue reading
Summer Water Safety
Dear Mr. Dad: One of my family’s favorite things about summer is that we get to spend a lot of time in and around water, whether that’s at the beach or in a swimming pool. A NextGen Vasectomy with Some Stick to It
If you thought that “plastics” were a hit in America, take a look at gel technology. Who can forgot those Brylcreem hair gel ads in the 60’s touting “A little dab’ll do ya,” and oh so neatly donned by President Reagan. Then, a decade or two ago, testosterone gels hit the market big time for male...Continue reading

This article was originally published at OlderBeast, whose mission is to help 40+ guys “double down” on body-and-soul health for the 2nd half of their life. Swimming is one of the few fitness activities any guy will agree is great for you. But few guys actually swim. Every 40+ guy should have swimming as part...
“Mid-life Crisis?” Nah…It’s Just the Starting Point for Your Longest Run.
My aspiration is to clearly see and courageously confront concerns appearing for me (and other 40+ guys, too) at the mid-life point and beyond. Concerns about staying physically vital. About not looking “old.” About warding off maladies that lurk in the shadows. Among all concerns, perhaps the biggest is the most subconscious and hardest to recognize: At or beyond life’s halfway marker, we’re uncertain what our life ultimately will have meant. This “Meaning of Life” concern is caricatured as the midlife crisis and the sports car in response. But in reality, it can be more of an awakening, a broadening of vision and spirit, a healthy challenge, and an opportunity. Intensifying your focus on fitness, nutrition and overall wellness — doubling down on overall body-and-soul health — helps maximize this opportunity and achieve whatever your definition of "Meaning" is.Continue reading
