Dana is an ORISE Health Policy Fellow in the Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP), where she assists in the coordination and development of the Dietary Guidelines for Americans. Previously, Dana was an ORISE fellow at the Center for Food Safety and Applied Nutrition (CFSAN) at the FDA. Prior to her federal work, Dana conducted nutrition research at UNC Greensboro, studying the underlying mechanisms of obesity.

Dr. Joseph Pergolizzi, Jr. is an internationally renowned perioperative and pain specialist, well-versed in multiple issues confronting patients and caregivers in acute and chronic pain. He runs a highly regarded pain center in Naples, Florida; is chairman of the Abstract and Poster Selection Committee for PAINWeek; and is a member of the CHANGE PAIN Board. Additionally he has been awarded the American Medical Association Physician Recognition Award with Commendation. Early in Pergolizzi’s career, he was concerned that pain patients “had no voice” and were unnecessarily suffering in silence, worried about the side effects of common pain treatment options. Pergolizzi has since devoted his time, working tirelessly, to overcome that fear and get his patients on the road to recovery by offering a variety of treatment options, including holistic approaches, best suited to each individual’s needs. As a physician, inventor, research scientist and advocate for pain patients, Pergolizzi has leveraged his medical, regulatory and business acumen to build a strong track record of success within the healthcare industry. Additionally, he works with Healthy Directions as an adviser and educator on natural solutions for pain management. Pergolizzi has authored more than 350 peer-reviewed articles, abstracts, platform presentations, and book chapters. He earned a bachelor’s degree in physical chemistry from St. John’s University and his medical degree from Ross University School of Medicine with the highest honors. Mark Ratner, MD, is the chief science officer at Theralogix, a health and wellness company founded by a team of physicians and scientists committed to developing evidence-based, independently certified nutritional supplements. Prior to joining Theralogix, Ratner ran his Washington, DC-based practice for 30 years focused on male reproductive health. He has been an investigator for dozens of clinical trials, and served as the director of male reproductive medicine for one of the largest IVF practices in the country. Additionally, he has spoken at dozens of national meetings, covering topics across a wide range of medical specialties including nutrition, male and female fertility, rheumatology, OB-GYN, urology and pain management. Ratner completed his undergraduate studies at Cornell University, where he also did graduate work in Nutritional Biochemistry. Following graduate school, Ratner attended the Tulane University School of Medicine, and completed his residency training in Adult and Pediatric Urology at the Tulane Hospital system.

Dennis is a Nutrition Advisor for the Dietary Guidelines for Americans, specifically supporting efforts related to infant and child nutrition as well as women who are pregnant or lactating.  Previously he served 2 years in the Office of the Surgeon General and he also worked on national and regional public policy the Women Infants and Children (WIC) program for 10 years.

Ivan Cole is a freelance writer and a fitness fanatic. He used to work as a personal trainer and is now devoted to helping others reach their exercise and nutrition goals through his articles. If he is not at the gym, you can find him hiking with his two dogs or practicing yoga and meditation.
