Four Ways Goodwill Can Help with New Year’s Resolutions

When do you start planning your resolutions? Most people start right about now. Sometimes our goals are pie-in-the-sky dreams of things that we certainly want to accomplish but may not have the time, the budget, or the wherewithal to get there. And that’s okay. This year, shake things up a little by setting some really easy goals. Doing that will have a double payoff. First, you’ll be setting yourself up for success. Second, crossing those goals off your list feels fantastic.

Here are some of easy-to-meet resolutions, and a few thoughts on how Goodwill can help you get there—and beyond.

Resolution #1: Clear the Clutter

Starting your new year out with a clean slate (or garage or something else) is one goal that’s usually pretty easy achieve. Some people like to take it head-on and knock it out in a day, a weekend, or a week. But for some of us, it’s easier to bite it into small chunks, tackling one room at a time throughout the year. Either way, Goodwill has some great solutions for storage or donation bins that won’t break the bank. Then, of course, once you’ve filled up a bin, return it to Goodwill along with your gently used items that someone else may need.

Resolution #2: Save More Money

This is a no-brainer when it comes to Goodwill. They have a huge selection of clothes, shoes, housewares, books, games, décor, and the list goes on and on. Before you break open your piggy bank and start counting your dimes for the department store, check out your local Goodwill. You’re not the only one who’s donated no-longer-needed items that are in great shape. Now it’s your turn to benefit. You may score big and save your wallet too.

Resolution #3: Lose Weight, Get Healthy

While much of the onus is on you to start this process, Goodwill can help with the tools you need to be successful. Going to a big department store could cost you hundreds of dollars for workout equipment. But, let’s not forget resolution #2, we don’t want to break the bank this year. So, check out your local Goodwill store and see what they have to offer. If you’re lucky, you may have two or three stores close enough to double or triple your options.

Resolution #4: New Job or Job Skills

Many people are perfectly happy with where they are in their career or with the job they have. But sometimes you feel the need to step up your game. You may not realize it, but that goal is easily attainable with the help of Goodwill. There’s no time like the present to get started. Don’t worry about what you don’t know or can’t do, dream about what you can learn and accomplish. Goodwill’s supportive and knowledgeable staff members are there to help you identify and develop the skills you need to grow in your profession.

When you shop at Goodwill or take your items in for donation, you save money, get organized, and help create jobs in your community: Every 23 seconds of every business day, a person served by Goodwill gets a good job.
